The Library of Your Dreams

At the elementary level, we talk a lot about HOW libraries are organized. In 5th grade this year, we talked about WHY they are organized in certain ways.

Imagine if you walked into our school library and Mrs. L. had organized the books based upon whether she liked them or not. Or by color? Or size? Or just based on how she felt that day! How would you begin to find what you were looking for?

Students began to examine how spaces around them were organized, and drew up blueprints for their very own "dream" libraries. If they were the ones making the rules, what kinds of things would we find within our walls? What would the outside of the building look like? What kind of people would go there to find information? How would they design the building to meet their needs?

There were so many bright ideas shared within this project. Perhaps someday our library friends will go out and make some of these dreams a reality. Well, maybe not the Godzilla Library. We could possibly do without that one :)

  Fondly,

What's In An E-Book?

Students at Scotia-Glenville have been learning about different types of books which are available to them to read....and this week we have been having fun with e-books!

Our district subscribes to the Overdrive service through Cap Region BOCES, and each student has a unique library card number. We've been practicing signing in and checking out these cool new books!

Visit the link below, and, if you haven't already, ask your friendly neighborhood librarian for your library card number to get started!

Happy Reading!
